Standard 3.5 Troubleshooting
The candidate will troubleshoot basic software and hardware problems common in digital learning environments.
Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was your individual contribution(s)?
This artifact is the unstructured field experience I completed in ITEC 7430 – Internet Tools in the Classroom. I was asked by the athletic director at Brunswick High School to create a website for the athletic department. This would include all of the sports available at BHS. I met with a representative from the website company – Go Big, and the coaches, as well as some of the football players, to determine what they’d like to have in a website. I then created the website, filled the rosters, loaded pictures, and showed coaches how to use it to load player highlights as well as any other information about the team.
Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed.
I included this artifact to demonstrate my mastery of standard 3.5, because this was exactly what my job was in reference to the website. I was even introduced at a meeting as the trouble shooter. If a coach or the athletic director had an issue, I was the go-to person. I kept this website up for the entire school year, and it involved a large amount of troubleshooting.
What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact?
I enjoyed creating this website. However, I probably learned some major lessons in coaching! I wanted all of the coaches to check it out and to let it be a useful tool for them. At the same time, when they used it, they typically ended up calling for troubleshooting! I also learned that 5 hours was a joke on an project like this!
How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
It was effective in bringing attention to the athletics and the athletes at Brunswick High. As a resource for college coaches to see highlights of players, I believe we had more students sign scholarship offers than we had in the last several years. That is a HUGE Plus!!
