Standard 5.3 Program Evaluation The candidate will design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was your individual contribution(s)? The artifact that I chose to include to show mastery of standard 5.1 is the GSAPS Review I completed while taking ITEC 7460. This was an opportunity to look closely at our school and how Professional Development is implemented, evaluated and practiced. I completed this independently with input from admin and other teachers. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed. I chose this artifact because the purpose of this project was to evaluate the programs at the school and determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning. It included taking a look at many aspects of professional learning, including design, resources, impact on staff practices and student learning, and using research-based strategies. By completing this assignment, I believe that I proved mastery of this standard. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact? I learned that while our school is performing at a level 3 – operational on most areas, the areas we scored Level 2 –emerging- are related. We scored a 2 in Defines expectation for implementing, and aligns professional learning with needs identified through analysis of a variety of data. This has been an issue in our county for a while, and I imagine it happens other places as well. The state and county have so many programs we are required to train in, that they is hardly time left for any professional learning based on staff needs. If I were to do this again, I would create a committee to plan some professional development based on data from the staff. I believe that teachers would feel empowered and would probably be more engaged in the professional learning if they felt that their voices were heard. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development or student learning? How can the impact be assessed? It was valuable to see the strengths and weaknesses of the staff in professional development. I believe that if we will take a serious look at our areas of weakness that we might begin to see some improvements. I think the improvement could be assessed by completing this report annually. |
