Standard 6.1 Continuous Learning
The candidate will demonstrate continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies and apply them to improve personal technologies and apply them to improve personal productivity and professional practice.
Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was your individual contribution(s)?
Although I have been a part of many professional development sessions, but the one I chose to include here was an all-day webinar called Google Drive and Tools. It consisted of 6 online sessions that taught me all about Google for teachers. The sessions were titled:
This is the professional development I chose to share because it was the course that was the most relevant to the standard. It taught the latest emerging technology and gave great, useful ideas to use Google in your classroom. This helped me with my Capstone, as well as ideas to use in my classroom. The courses covered many practices that will increase productivity, as well as student learning.
What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact?
I learned so much from this professional development! I learned lots of ideas to use with students, like collaborative projects and for my productivity, like Google Forms. I have implemented many things I learned, taught small workshops on this, and I will continue to add to my “toolbox” next year! If I could do it again, I would have taken these courses much earlier! Even though the technology is always changing, this was so vital to my classroom this spring. I would have loved to have more experience with it before time to implement my capstone.
How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
I presented workshops and have become the expert at my school. I believe that everyone at school would agree that they have all improved productivity due to the Google training I have provided, which was very similar to these courses. The impact can be assessed by observation of teachers and lesson plans. They are facilitating more collaborative learning using Google, and the staff as a whole is communicating more effectively as a result.
