Standard 6.3 Field Experiences
The candidate will engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards.
Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was your individual contribution(s)?
The artifact I chose for this standard is the field experience log I completed when I took ITEC 7460. This was one of my favorite experiences during the program, as it was my opportunity to coach a colleague.
Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed.
This represents my mastery of the standard, in that the field experience gave me the opportunity to practice all of the skills I’ve learned throughout the courses I’ve taken. It was awesome to be able to put to use the standards that I’ve been working on and learning. I believe that each field experience I completed guided me closer to being prepared to become a technology coach.
What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact?
Completing this artifact has taught me several things. For me personally, the most important thing I learned was probably the value in writing things down as I do them. For one thing, it helped me to remember what we had done before, but it also was nice to be able to show it to her as a part of our discussion. I also learned that using different methods of guidance or instruction with colleagues is as valuable as it is with students. I believe it was effective as it was, but I do believe that an improvement could be to ask the teacher to provide feedback in the journal. It would be nice to have her thoughts about my specific lessons, as well as about her implementation and how she felt about it.
How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
This was one that may not have impacted overall large-scale school improvement, but it did help the two of us. It helped me to remember all of the basics of the programs we used, but it also reminded me of some of the enhanced features that I had forgotten. It helped her to learn and implement new technology into her classroom. An added benefit that I didn’t foresee was the fact that the rest of our team saw what we are doing, and they began to remember some of the “forgotten features” as well.
